Update on Shymasundar Prabhu (ACBSP) & Gopinath Prabhu

Submitted by: HG Kaulini devi dasi, T.P. Gita Nagari, Pennsylvania (U.S.)

October 10, 2007

Dear Devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Many devotees have been inquiring about the health of Shymasundar prabhu (ACBSP) and Gopinath prabhu after their successful liver transplant surgery and thus I am forwarding this update. A couple of days after the surgery Shymasundar prabhu developed some bile leak from one of the tubes that connect the transplanted liver to his body. This is not an unusual occurrence in liver transplants. The surgeons> performed a laparoscopy on Shymasundar prabhu on 9 Oct ‘08 and fixed the problem. He was in discomfort earlier due to the bile leak but is in good spirits now. He should hopefully be discharged from the hospital in a couple of days. Gopinath prabhu had some abdominal difficulties while he was at the hospital but that was taken care of by the doctors. He was discharged from the hospital on 9 Oct ’08 and is presently recuperating. Before he was discharged Gopinath prabhu forwarded a copy of ‘Here Comes the Sun’ (a book on George Harrison by Yogeshvar prabhu) to the Liver Transplant Coordinator of University of Chicago Medical Center. She has began to read it and mentioned she liked the book. This is the same lady who had asked Shymasundar prabhu “Who are you?” when almost 35 devotees came forward to donate their liver (since usually only immediate family members come forward). She was amazed to know about the Hare Krishnas. Both the devotees will have follow-up checkup after a week to monitor their> progress and check if the liver is regenerating properly.>> Just want to inform all devotees who sent messages for Gopinath prabhu that I read out almost all the letters to him (which I received before and after the surgery) and also forwarded phone messages. Gopinath prabhu also informed Shymasundar prabhu that devotees across the world are praying for his quick recovery and especially devotees from London and Sri Sri Radha Gopinath, Mumbai have forwarded their best wishes and prayers. He mentioned to me that Shymasundar prabhu was visibly moved to know this and almost had tears in his eyes. Both of them have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all the devotees for their support and prayers.

Update
October 6, 2007

Dear Prabhus Matajis and Maharajas,

Dandavat Pranams. Jaya Srila Prabhupad.

I am just back from the hospital where Shyamsudar prabhu is being operated.

Right now it is 8 22 PM Chicago time Gopinath prbahu, the liver donor is in the ICU right now and is safe. He is still groggy due to the anasthesia, but doctors say that he is doing very well and lost very little blood during the
operation.

The doctors are keeping us updated about Shyamsundar prabhu’s surgery, and it will take about 4 hours more. It is expected to get over at 12 AM local
time. We saw him off to the operation theater around 10 30 AM local time, so it has been some time now. As of now both of them seem to be doing well.

I will meet both of them again tomorrow morning at the hospital and keep you updated.

Your servant,
Krishnabhishek dasa

I am praying that everything is now going well for you both and that Srila Prabhupada  is showering his eternal blessings on you to recover and stay with the devotees to help in the preaching of KC to all living beings so that they also may get a glimpse of what it means to be in a wonderful family such as this one belonging to HDG Srila Prabhupada.

I am so happy and relieved that the operation was successful and both of these most wonderful devotees are recuperating well.

All glories to the big heart of Gopinatha prabhu. He has set an exemplary
and highest standard of love and sacrifice for each. Finally all that we
as devotees have is each other. Guru maharaj and all devotees are really
proud of him and eternally indebted to him for saving HG Syamsunder Prabhu to whom we are so indebted eternally for unaccountable contributions.

I humbly and sincerely pray at the lotus feet of Sri Sri Laxmi Narshimdeva
to always protect both of them and give a long blissful life to inspire
all of us.
